At Hofstede’s it is our priority to provide great quality produce at all times seeking
out LOCAL fruit and vegetables as long as the season permits. We provide local produce
straight from many local farms that we have built relationships with over the last
20+ years. Not only do we continue building long lasting relationships with farms
in the Fraser Valley but also in the Okanagan. During the summer months we drive
out to pick up freshly picked fruit twice a week, ensuring the freshest and highest
quality for you. |

COME WITH US TO THE OKANAGAN! |
 |
In order to ensure the freshest and best quality fruits and vegetables at Hofstede’s,
Richard drives to the Okanagan himself in the summer months to pick up our produce.
Experience a trip to the Okanagan with him….
After picking up the five ton truck, Richard first heads home to decide which of
his six kids will experience the trip with him on this particular day. Once this
is decided they hop in and are off on the road with a long day ahead of them.

Driving the scenic Hope Princeton route, there is always something interesting to
look at. |
 |
 |
Once arriving in the Okanagan Richard is, at times, able to take the time to see
the quality of fruit that is ripening on the vine or tree. Farmers can tell him
how the season is progressing so far and their estimated crop yield.

Here Richard is in Keremeos looking at field tomatoes- a very popular commodity
in the fall. |

Natasha is checking out the concord grapes (left), and Katie and Owen (right) are
in the orchard inspecting apples that are almost ready to be picked. They have some
time to hang out while Richard is loading the truck or having coffee with one of
the farmers (pictured below). |

Sometimes the trip takes longer and the trip home is accompanied by a beautiful
sunset reflected on the river. |
 |
Once back at Hofstede’s, the truck is unloaded and all the bins are organized. They
are either immediately brought to the front for the display for our customers or
temporarily stored in our large on site cooler.

Then the front area is completely emptied of product and then it’s filled back up
again with the new Okanagan fresh fruits and vegetables. All this hopefully before
8am when the store officially opens. |

small taste of what going to the Okanagan with Richard would be like from start
to finish. Although if you have met Richard at all, you will appreciate the quietness
that our “web version” of a day with Richard allows for. |
